Drawing in progress , Graphite on Arches water color paper mounted on maple    40” x 50”

This is the hardest drawing I’ve ever worked on for many reasons, what you are seeing  is the simpler passages, the hard stuff is in the center.  That in itself is ok, after all that’s what I am interested in - complexity.  But the deadline is July and I have been working on this since November, I have about 300 hours into it so far and it will take at least a 1000 hours.  Between a full time job, teaching, a rotator cuff injury and Jasper (my puppy, who is my buddy) I get half the time to draw then what I’m used to.  All I can do is not think ahead and draw one branch at time …still I love the journey!

I told you playing professional quarterback could have a detrimental effect on your art, but did you listen to me..?!

What's that old saying.. "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.."  I guess the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune are just that.  Or, as we used to say, when I was in the Army, "When the shit storm hits, it doesn't care who's outside."

Okay.  I'm done with homilies and quotes now.  I wish you all the luck in the world, in your endeavor, my friend, while I have faith that, if anyone can, you will doubtless 'git er done'...  Oops, apparently I had one more quote left in me.

Doesn't do any good to wear out any more superlatives, gushing about your art.  I've done that to death.  Just know that I remain amazed at your talent and we can leave it at that.

Carry on, dude.

I know and understand.  I am drawing a Barred Owl.  I think I'd rather be drawing tree branches than those feathers sometimes.  There is a little difference between it and the reference, "he" is still balanced but his angle changed a bit.;) (Wink)   Hours and hours later I notice. It did make me laugh, for not paying close enough attention, from farther away.  I forgot a lot.:D (Big Grin)    At least it still works.

What do use mostly,  mechanical pencils?

Decisions, decisions, decisions......every pencil mark is one.  Something I love about drawing.   I've never drawn that large before, I am going to have to give it try once my attempts to recapture some of my lost skills bear more fruit.  I am seeing a complete grid?
