Occasional Angel by arminmersmann Occasional Angel by arminmersmann
Finally it’s finished

Occasional Angel

Pencil on Mat Board

20” x 40”

I know plenty of people who look “bad” fancy themselves as “bad” and spend lots of time playing the part, could it be for “self protection”? But just below the “mask” lurks the goodness that’s in most of us. Occasional Angel

I want to thank all of you people who kept up with this endless drawing. As much as I try to reply to all, I know I must miss a few of you, so thank you so much for the comments, questions and opinions!

Many people believe that angels are cute little cherubs who spend all of their time watching over us and keeping us safe. That's not how any scripture describes them, though. Angels are hardcore. Look up some info about angels, and you'll find that they are not all that different from *nimra's creation, Occasional Angel, final. This piece is an expertly drawn, photo-realistic piece. It fooled me when I first saw it. Be sure to full view to see the intricacies involved. ( Suggested by tubamann and Featured by dakth )

I've been remembering this one from years back. It remained in my memory as one of the best drawings, technique and theme-wise. I often showed it to people when I wanted to show them what a REALLY good drawing looks like. Now I just stumbled upon it again and still, I think it's the best drawing I've seen. Although, it seems so small now! It must be that the monitors grew bigger, but your upload remained on the 2004's standards :) Ever thought of reuploading it? I would love to see all the details! Good job, once again!

This one is my favorite of what you have done.  Mat board, really?  You don't do all of your work on museum quality papers?  I love hot press illustration board but so many greats I idolize use Arches art board, which I find too rough for my pencils.  Even the Strathmore 500 Bristol Board is difficult to take blacks or really darks.

Anyhow.  I just LOVE "Occasional Angel"!

i used Starthmore 500 but your right black dont take well.  I dont use mat board anymore what i have been using is Arches Hot press watercolor paper mounted on maple finally a substrate that has all i need, only took 45 years to find it...thank you for the good words ...Armin

Thank you for answering me.  I feel so honored.  I know everyone tells you how much they idolize you so I won't repeat all that.  But I think this of you every day (THERE, I said it anyway!).  I went to an actual Blick store 1 day ago (not one in Orlando) and I got some Arches watercolor (so much better to see and feel the papers).    My biggest challenge will be to mount it on maple.  Thank you again for your time.
One day I will get to see one of your pieces in person.

there is a company in New York that sells it mounted called Art Board (goggle them), that where i get it mounting it yourself you would need a vacuum press but picture framers have them they could do it for you goo luck...Armin

It certainly not great but it important to them as artists for it was a transition. Its not as bad as some make it out to be but I had to get used to it. The Unforgiving series is great I love the third one especially. For the “fans” who think they need to repeat Master every time they are living in la-la-land it isn’t going to happen nor should it. thanks

DOn't understand why I didn't fave this sooner... oh well...

Looks awesome. The piece comes to me as a rebel, but kind hearted spirit and beholding a great wisdom of life experience. I also noticed that this is a kind of person you like to favour for your works. The framing-effect is telling me he's a spirit. One of those who can't seen by others exept yourself. But for you as clear as a whistle present, as to understand your misery. Like you could tell him anything and as hard and rough as it is, shouthing and cursing...he lingers with an understanding ear to let to look into yourself to aid you to a solution.

Stupid thought anyway, but at least its narrative for my fantasy-part :).

Very well done on the expression and the in-the-frame- effect.

Well I think that what is so powerful here at DA, is seeing so much of what one doesn’t do and that in itself inspires one to do more, thank you

The meaning behind each piece is very nearly as impressive as the work itself. You, sir, are a living Master.

I've never thought that of, or said that to anyone in my life.

Also, I feel a bit odd being all schmoozey and ass-kissy here, but in this case I feel compelled to join the masses in singing your praise lol

By far and away the best pencil artist I've ever seen.

I more than likely already commented on this, hence it's in my favorites. :) I still can't manage to get over this drawing. It's simply amazing, and holds so much detail, and meaning as well. Did you draw this from a photo? Well wherever the idea was formed, it's amazing. You did wonderfully on this, and you have a great amount of talent!
